CUTOUT™ TECHNIQUE
Inspired by the common notice board, the idea came about when trying to find an art director for the magazine they were launching. She had a cork board wrer she collected references and imagery- the more she looked at the board and the photos she took of details she realised that ‘look’captures and communicated everything they wanted Marmalade to be. A metaphorical notice board about the best creativity out there.
The process had three key stages. Design the pages the magazine in InDesign or Quark Express, including the imagery. Work to rigid grid. Once this was done, this is the point were you send the print, she printed it out and cut out different elements. Titles would have individual letters cut out. These new 3-D elements are tehn re-assembled using the original layout as template. Once this is done, they are photographed and only then does the magazine go to print.
